12 Home & Interiors Books To Read This Year

There’s a whole wealth of inspiration on social media (and the internet, in general) but sometimes a good old-fashioned flick of a coffee table book is just what the soul needs. Whether you’re curled up under a blanket in the heart of winter, or sunning yourself in the garden with a mojito to hand, there’s a Home & Interiors book for every season, and indeed every month of the year.

1. January

Kurashi At Home by Marie Kondo

Whether you follow Marie or not, this book will help you kickstart the year with a streamlined approach to your home. New year, new start.

2. February

Architectural Digest at 100

Choose this tome for cosy, inspired reading. Not only can you peruse the homes of the rich and famous without moving from your living room, you’ll also find yourself drooling over architectural delights. Because no one is ready to get out of hibernation yet, but we’re seriously thinking about it.

3. March

House of Flowers by Ashlee Jane

Embrace all things Spring with the release of Ashlee’s book this month, and give your home a floral makeover (or just make yourself feel extra, I don’t judge). Ashlee is one of my favourites to follow on Instagram and her floral wizardry has me in awe. Expect yourself to be making lots of new trips to your backyard or florist as the book looks full of inspiration. Perhaps warn your other half first.

4. April

Inspired by Nature by Hans Blomquist

Nature is going to be giving you GOLD this month, so this book is your go-to for inspiration on bringing it all in to your home.

5. May

Curate, Inspiration for an Individual Home by Lynda Gardener and Ali Heath

You’re almost half way through the year and perhaps wondering what you’ve done to assert your sense of self in the last 5 months. Look no further than this collection of helpful tips and stunning photography for a little guidance. You, and your home, will know exactly where you’re headed before the month is out.

6. June

Nomad at Home, by Hilary Robertson

Well, if this book doesn’t knock you sideways with the travel bug I don’t know what will. Cover to cover of artisanal, exotic and perfectly imperfect interiors, this one will have you booking your next getaway quicker than you can say ‘Wabi Sabi.’

7. July

Never Too Small

Children coming home for the summer? Families expanding? Now is the time to start making adjustments to your living space and giving everyone, and everything, space to breathe.

8. August

Ikebana Unbound , by Amanda Luu

This month, try something new. Try an art form that encourages you to dig deep inside yourself, dissociate from modern day distractions, and learn a new skill. Not only will it help you, but your home will reap the benefits of your creations too.

9. September

The Foraged Home, by Joanna Maclennan

This month is the time to go foraging for flowers and dried grasses; at the end of their growing season, but before they wither. And once you’ve done your foraging? This book will provide you with a wealth of inspiration on how to display, store, or use your finds.

10. October

The Kinfolk Home – Interiors for Slow Living by Nathan Williams

Let your interior reflect the transition of seasons this month. As life starts to slow down, follow the ethos of this book. Cherish close relationships, let your shelves sing with items that evoke memories, and embrace slow, simple, enriched living.

11. November

The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking

Who doesn’t love a book written about happiness? This is, hand on heart, my go to happy-bible. I’ve read it cover to cover on countless occasions, but you can dip in and out of it to browse the cosy interior inspiration, warming recipes, or general soul searching. Make a few simple observations as to what makes you happy in life, as this book suggests, and you will be bouncing down the street before you know it.

12. December

Home for the Soul by Sara Bird and Dan Duchars

The clue is in the title here. During a month when commercialism is at an all time high, encourage a little self soul-searching and be guided by this book. Sustainable, ethical interiors at their finest.

There you have it! Enough literature to keep you swooning all year. Have you read any of these titles? What did you think? Let me know below or head over to my Instagram to start a discussion.
