5 Minimal-Effort Ways to Refresh Your Kitchen

It’s January; no one wants to put more effort in to something than is absolutely necessary, and that includes our homes.

The catch is, everyone longs for a freshen up. For ourselves, it’s a haircut. For our cars, it’s a valet. For our homes? Well, that can get expensive.

But it doesn’t have to.

The kitchen is renowned for being the most expensive room to refresh. I’m talking eye-watering levels of bills for new units, lighting, appliances, homewares and decor. Not anymore, my friend.

I’ve collected 5 simple and affordable refresh ideas for your kitchen that won’t leave you out of pocket. Best of all? You can do them ALL in one day, should you choose.

Hello new kitchen!

1. Unit Panelling

Let’s start big. Kitchen units looking a little tired? Sure, you can paint them, but that’s so last year, right? Instagram was flooded with (very beautiful) examples of painted unit upcycles last year. This year – I’m calling it now – it is the year of the panel; slim covers that stick or screw to your existing units and look like they’ve always been there.

Take a look below at the transformation at the Farmhouse using just one example of paneling. There’s more! Try Nature Wall for durable, waterproof panels like I did, or Pole Wrap by DIY Her Way for sheet panelling that’s so easy to use you can cut it with scissors!

2. Switch It Up

No more hiding your plug sockets with conveniently placed chopping boards and appliances!

Was I the only one who didn’t know you could change your socket and switch covers without an electrician? Bye bye 1980’s white! This was quite possible the game changer in our kitchen renovation. Try Dowsing & Reynolds for some serious inspiration. If you’re not comfortable changing the covers, do seek a professionals guidance. It’s better than getting electrocuted.

3. Vinyl

Vinyl! Put it everywhere! On the back splash, on the counter tops, on the unit fronts, on the shelves. This versatile little thing is a great temporary measure if you’re thinking of splurging at some point in the future. It’s easy to cut too. Jes Rose Vinyl ‘s Instagram has quite possibly my favourite selection of vinyls, inspiration and transformations.

4. Handles

You’ve heard the phrase small but mighty, right? Nothing could be truer for your kitchen refresh; new handles on your units and drawers are sure to have a huge impact and complete your interior scheme. And don’t be disheartened if you can’t get enough of the same handles – go eclectic and mix and match! The best thing? All you need is a screwdriver and the handles (and maybe a drill if the existing holes don’t line up).

5. Lighting

There’s no need to call an electrician for this one, either. If it’s a temporary refresh you are wanting, head along to Amazon and get yourself some of these battery control operated LED bulbs . Life. Changed.

Kitchen refreshed. All in a day. You’re welcome!
